Alfonso Ribeiro Joins Tyra Banks As DWTS Season 31 Co-Host

Dancing With The Stars season 31 is getting a new co-host, and it's none other than Alfonso Ribeiro. DWTS returns in September at a new home, Disney+. The show aired its first 30 seasons on ABC, but the network announced in April the show would be moving to the streaming service. NBA champion Iman Shumpert took home the coveted Mirrorball Trophy in season 30 with his professional partner, Daniella Karagach, who became an Emmy nominee this week for outstanding choreography for two of her routines with Iman. The couple beat out pop star JoJo Siwa and her partner Jenna Johnson, who made history as DWTS' first same-sex couple.

A lot is changing for DWTS this fall, and one change already announced is the return of the show's original executive producer, Conrad Green. Conrad helped get DWTS on ABC in 2005 when it first premiered, and he departed the show in 2013. The decision to bring him back is reportedly very popular with the cast, crew and professional dancers. Conrad's return even got the approval of former longtime host Tom Bergeron, who was let go from DWTS in 2020, but Tom still told fans that his days in the ballroom are over and he has no intention of reuniting with the show.

Former DWTS champion and current host of America's Funniest Home Videos Alfonso will be co-hosting season 31 along with Tyra Banks, who is returning for her third season as host. Alfonso took home the Mirrorball Trophy in season 19 with professional Witney Carson. In an interview with People, Alfonso said he was "so excited" to return to the ballroom, this time as a host. Alfonso guest hosted one week of DWTS during season 21 when Tom was mourning the passing of his father. DWTS also posted a video on Instagram of Alfonso and Tyra sharing their excitement over the news.

DWTS will not be Alfonso's first time sharing the screen with Tyra, as the model and businesswoman had a recurring role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. "My goal is to bring back a sense of the happy and the fun, and the family atmosphere, that this show has always felt like for me," Alfonso explained. It has also confirmed that Derek Hough, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman will return to the judging panel for the new season. The DWTS season 31 cast will be revealed September 8 on Good Morning America.

The news of Alfonso becoming a co-host on DWTS should be celebrated by fans who want to see the show get back to its roots. Alfonso is DWTS royalty, so it's only natural for him to come back to the ballroom and join the show as a co-host. There will, of course, be disappointment that Tyra is coming back, who has had a controversial tenure as host, but having Alfonso there to balance her out should make Dancing With The Stars more enjoyable to watch when the show returns this fall.
