Schitt's Creek Season 6 & Making-Of Documentary Release Early On Netflix

The final season of Schitt's Creek hit Netflix earlier than expected. The series stars father-son duo Dan and Eugene Levy, who also created and produce the show. Catherine O'Hara also stars. The final season aired earlier this year on Pop TV, earning critical acclaim.  The show garnered acclaim for its lighthearted approach to its story about a super-wealthy family that goes broke and is forced to move to the eponymous small town. As they adjust to their new lives, the Rose family meets the colorful characters that live in the town, forming last relationships.

The series pulled off a sweep at the Emmys in September, breaking multiple records. Schitt's Creek is the first series to win all the awards in the comedy category in a single year. The show picked up awards for Outstanding Lead and Supporting Actor and Actress, Outstanding Directing and Writing, as well as Outstanding Comedy Series. In total, the show ended the evening with nine trophies. It also broke the previous record of trophies collected for a comedy series in a single year, set by Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel in 2018.

Star Dan Levy announced the surprise on Twitter along with a gif of O'Hara's outlandish character Moira. The season also comes with the documentary special Best Wishes, Warmest Regards, a behind-the-scenes look at the show. The documentary aired after the series finale and focused on the show's production. It also looked at the impact that the show had, featuring a roundtable discussion with the cast.

The surprise is surely a welcome one for fans of the series. Many people in the US are still under quarantine or working from home because of the coronavirus pandemic. The series was originally set to hit Netflix later in October, after the series had begun airing on Comedy Central. Luckily for fans, the Levys were able to pull some strings and get the final season on the platform sooner.

The addition is surely bittersweet. The show was beloved by fans and its positivity and heartwarming plot lines are a nice reprieve from the chaos of this year. However, the fact that fans may or may not get more of the adored characters is disappointing. While season 7 is not in the cards, there have been talks of a movie. Whatever is in store next for these characters, it's probably a long way off. For now, Schitt's Creek fans can enjoy the sixth and final season on Netflix now.
