Eiichiro Oda, the brilliant creator of One Piece, is well known for his masterful use of foreshadowing. Many times a minor detail mentioned in one chapter will be revealed to be majorly important hundreds of chapters later. These callbacks are part of what makes One Piece such a joy to read. Even the movies aren't immune to this as One Piece: RED recently foreshadowed a big manga twist.
