She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Writer Reveals Reason for Name Change

When the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was first announced, the series was simply called She-Hulk. However, head writer Jessica Gao revealed that a comment from Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige led to the name change.

Speaking to Lifehacker in a recent interview, Gao spoke about the ongoing show and noted that a random comment from Feige based on a joke from the series is what caused the team behind the series to change its name throughout the process.

“We always had the line in the show where Bruce says, ‘She-Hulk attorney at law, it’s got a nice ring to it,'” said Gao. “And one day we were watching cuts and when it got to that scene, Kevin just said ‘that’s a great title for a show, that should be the title of the show.’ And that’s it. You know when the golden tongue of Kevin Feige speaks, then it becomes canon and that’s really how it happened.”

The joke ended up paying off big time, as the series’ name has been just one of the many facets of what folks have enjoyed about the non-traditional, more lighthearted MCU series.

Described as a 10-episode legal comedy, the She-Hulk series will be led by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Tatiana Maslany, who will take on the titular role as Jennifer Walters. She will be joined by Avengers: Endgame star Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth (The Incredible Hulk) as they reprise their respective roles as Bruce Banner/The Hulk and Abomination.
