The Continental, the upcoming John Wick prequel series, has moved from Starz over to Peacock four years after the show’s announcement.

The Lionsgate-produced series is currently expected to be debuting in 2023, now on Peacock instead of Starz. This change in service makes sense, as all three John Wick films are currently available through Peacock. President of Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer Kelly Campbell commented on the change:

“The John Wick films have become a global phenomenon, are among the most watched titles on Peacock, and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise,” said Campbell. “We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of The Continental will be the streaming event of the year.”

“Set 40 years before the events of the films, the upcoming prequel spinoff centers around a young man named Winston, who will one day grow up to be the character played by Ian McShane in the Wick movies,” reads the synopsis. “In the prequel set against the backdrop of 1970s New York, fans will find a young Winston as an up-and-coming hitman hotelier who, along with others, create a haven for unsavory types.”

The titular hotel was first introduced in the first installment of the John Wick films as a safe haven for assassins and has been a primary location in the film franchise. Each installment of the event series is expected to be 90-minutes long and will premiere over the course of three consecutive nights.
