While Jason Todd was killed as Robin after a fan vote showed fans hated his character, he was later resurrected as Red Hood - however, just because the death was ultimately reversed, that doesn't mean it was without consequences, with one in particular enacted by Jason's predecessor Nightwing.
Recruited by Batman after Dick Grayson struck out on his own, Jason was a problem child for the Dark Knight. The second Robin was frequently showcased as reckless with a violent streak and disrespect for authority. His rebellious nature dissatisfied readers until he was infamously voted to be killed off by Joker in the conclusion of the 'A Death in the Family' story arc.
Word of the aftermath of this arc eventually circulated to Dick Grayson, who heading into The New Titans #55 (by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez) had been leading the team as Nightwing. Upon learning that his surrogate brother had been killed in the line of battle, Nightwing was quick to fire the team's youngest member, Danny Chase, so that he wouldn't end up like his fallen comrade. However, while Dick was just doing what he thought was best to protect the young metahuman, firing Danny actually just recreated the way fans had ditched Jason Todd.
Like Jason, Danny Chase was the subject of significant fan hate at the time, viewed as a bratty kid despite his intended purpose of putting the 'Teen' back into Teen Titans during an era when the original team had aged out of this descriptor. While Jason Todd's death was more of a direct response to that popular opinion since a fan vote decided his fate, it's hard to see Danny Chase's firing as anything but writers bowing to the negative response to the character. This creates a darkly ironic situation where fan dislike of Jason resulted not just in his death, but in Nightwing dismissing another despised young hero in response. Tragically, this means Jason Todd's immediate legacy as a character is getting someone else in his position relegated to comic obscurity.
Since his resurrection, Jason Todd has actually referenced the fan vote hate towards his run as Robin, voicing his displeasure at being judged and discarded. That painful self-awareness of how people both in and out of the DC Universe view him has ranged from misery to rage on Jason's behalf. Just imagine how Red Hood's Jason Todd would feel had he discovered the bittersweet irony surrounding Danny Chase's firing, especially knowing that Nightwing did the exact same thing to Danny that fans did to him as Robin.
