Players are able to join factions, assemble an army and explore Middle-earth on a quest to claim the One Ring. Lord of the Rings: Rise to War breaks the series' intricate timeline in an effort to create an exciting mobile experience, with the game taking place during a period of truce that temporarily ends the War of the Ring. The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War timeline doesn't follow J.R.R. Tolkien's novels, potentially letting a figure long dead before the original book trilogy make an appearance.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, developer NetEase Games revealed that Isildur may join The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War in future seasons. The legendary King of Gondor and Arnor is known for leading the charge against Sauron and successfully cutting the One Ring from his finger. However, Isildur sadly succumbed to the Ring's seduction and prevented its timely destruction before meeting a dishonorable end. NewEase Games provided no details about Isildur's inclusion in the mobile strategy game, though mentioning the character does suggest an impending introduction.
While Lord of the Rings: Rise to War is set to expand its roster of Middle-earth heroes, the game Lord of the Rings: Gollum will highlight one particularly fascinating Tolkien character. The upcoming stealth action game will cast players as the corrupted Hobbit before the events of Lord of the Rings. Gollum will be on a quest to find his precious One Ring, but players' actions can steer him to either embrace his obsession or follow his more docile Sméagol personality. While little gameplay has been shown, Lord of the Rings: Gollum will let players use the titular characters agility to avoid or get the drop on enemies.
