Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Jurassic League #3.
One of the funniest gags from The Boys is that the Deep has romantic relationships with aquatic animals. And as it turns out, so might DC's dino Aquaman. As seen in the latest issue of DC's new Jurassic League series, the prehistoric version of Aquaman has a variety of sea life friends he deeply cares for (and all have names).
Jurassic League essentially takes characters from DC Comics and reimagines them as dinosaurs. There are dinosaur versions of the Flash, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more. But there are also the Dino versions of villains like the Joker, Bizarro, and Giganta. The Dino version of Aquaman called Aquanyx even takes on a version of Black Manta called Blackmantasuarus, bringing his body to shore to figure out what these evil dinosaurs are planning.
In The Jurassic League #3 by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, the dino superheroes theorize that their enemies are abducting humans for some nefarious scheme involving a mysterious "Dark Embryo". To stop them, the various super dinos are going to need to come together as a team. However, their conversation is interrupted by Jokerzard bursting from the water and chopping down on the dolphin Aquanyx saved from Blackmantasuarus (named Matilda). Then, much to Aquanyx's dismay, Jokerzard violently throws the dolphin into the dino version of Flash named Flashraptor.
Aquanyx's reaction to the dolphin attack is so overly dramatic it could only be perceived as comical or that there's something else going on below the surface (no pun intended). Before the attack on the dolphin takes place, Aquanyx makes a point of mentioning how he saved Matilda from Blackmantasaurus just a few moments earlier, signifying that the dolphin is more than just some random porpoise that he saved. It definitely brings to mind The Boys' obvious Aquaman parody The Deep who was similarly protective and sensitive about a dolphin being abused at an amusement park.
In the most recent season of The Boys, it's made explicit that the Deep has a real romantic relationship with an octopus. But in the first season, it was only hinted at that he had the same thing with the dolphin. The hilarious parallel is that the Deep is not as competent as Aquaman. While he attempted to rescue the dolphin, The Deep failed miserably which led to the dolphin's demise. The undersea hero was likewise mocked for attempting the rescue in a work van. As such, the fact that Aquanyx can actually fight shows that it took a joke from The Boys created to make Aquaman look bad and played it off in a seriously awesome fashion.
