Dota 2: Best Skill Build For Omniknight (7.31) | Screen Rant

Omniknight in Dota 2 has been a strong support for the longest time, but recently got a rework that requires a skill build change. Degen Aura, an ability that has always been a target for memes in the Dota 2 community, got replaced by a variation of the hero's Aghanim's Shard, Hammer of Purity. Degen Aura still lives on as the new Aghanim's Shard ability but is no longer

Omniknight's new skill gives him a much stronger laning presence. Hammer of Purity has a low mana cost and low cooldown and does a moderate amount of pure damage along with a slow that scales with level. This ability is amazing for trading, as it's one of the most efficient spells in the game in terms of damage per mana.

Degen Aura certainly had its uses on the pre-rework Omniknight in Dota 2, but those uses were often limited enough to where players would take extra stats over actually leveling the skill. The slow is great when Omniknight is survivable enough to stay on enemies, but a support Omniknight seldom is. Fortunately, core Omniknights now have the option of buying this ability when it's appropriate instead of all Omniknights being forced to have it.

Support Omniknight is all about keeping teammates alive in Dota 2. Hammer of Purity is taken at level 1 due to its strong laning but is maxed last because of its relatively poor scaling. Purification is maxed first as it's the best ability in the game in terms of creating a health swing; level 1 purification heals 90 health and does 90 pure damage in an AoE, and almost no spells come close to this power, especially when leveled up.

Heavenly Grace is maxed second as the scaling makes it incredibly powerful for midgame teamfights; it's not unrealistic to see Omniknight and his target getting an extra 60 strength, not to mention the target being dispelled of most negative effects. Guardian Angel is taken when it can be leveled to level 2 immediately, but can be leveled earlier in a pinch; it has a massive cooldown and a moderate mana cost but is a very strong panic button.

Support Omniknight's talents are all about providing extra healing and buffs in Dota 2, so most of the choices are clear. The level 15 talent is a bit of a tossup, however; the Guardian Angel cooldown gives the panic button ability a lower cooldown, but the Purification cooldown is always useful. Generally, the Purification cooldown is preferred for its reliability, but the other option isn't bad.

Core Omniknight is still focused on keeping teammates alive in Dota 2, but also wants to wade into fights and frontline. The skill build is identical for the same reasons as support Omniknight. That being said, more levels can be taken in Hammer of Purity over Purification if the slow is particularly impactful.

The talents are what's primarily different for a core Omniknight. Hammer of Purity scales with Omniknight's items, so the talents that improve it are prioritized. At level 15, the Purification cooldown is generally preferred as it speeds up his farming speed while also being the more reliable talent, but just like on support Omniknight the other talent isn't bad.
