The Riddler's face is finally revealed in a brand new The Batman clip. With mere days left before Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's much-anticipated blockbuster premieres, Warner Bros. is ramping up its marketing to keep the hype train for the film going. While all eyes will naturally be on the new Bruce Wayne, a freshly released snippet from The Batman puts the focus on the Riddler, aka Edward Nashton, played by Paul Dano.
Specific plot details about the film have been kept tightly under wraps, particularly with regard to the Riddler. Based on officially released information, The Batman will see Bruce in his second year as Gotham's Dark Knight. Getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of results from his work, he is further challenged when a series of murders ensues, potentially planned and executed by Nashton. As Bruce gets into his detective persona, he begins to learn about his family's dark past, and how the Waynes are connected to Gotham's deterioration.
Marketing for The Batman has purposefully hidden the Riddler, barely using him in trailers. In the few times that he's been featured, he's wearing his villain get-up, which takes inspiration from the real-life Zodiac Killer. In a new official clip from Dano's Good Morning America interview (via @TheBCEU), however, he's finally unmasked as Nashton is arrested by a dozen or more GCPD cops, including Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright). It's difficult to gauge what exactly is happening here, but it's a big reveal, considering that no promotional material for The Batman has unmasked the Riddler until now. In fact, his wrapped head and overall costume have been a favorite topic of conversation online. There's even an argument that Warner Bros. should've just kept this revelation in the movie, instead of spoiling it days before the blockbuster premieres, though it could be a move that's meant to target casual moviegoers who aren't particularly invested in the flick but are fans of Dano and his previous works. Coming across this video could entice them to check out The Batman when it hits theaters.
Some initial reactions for The Batman dropped early, and so far, they've all been good. If anything, it could help Warner Bros. more effectively promote the movie, since critics have been raving about it.
