An extremely impressive Sifu speedrun has recently surfaced online in which the player completes the entire game in just twenty-two minutes without dying a single time. The unique and brutally difficult martial arts gauntlet has been out for just a little over a week now, but it is already the subject of a passionate community of modders, speedrunners, and fan artists.
In Sifu, players must complete five ultra-challenging levels in a quest to exact revenge upon the murderer of the protagonist's father. Story in Sifu is sparse, however, as the spotlight is firmly trained upon the game's tight, complex hand-to-hand combat mechanics and unique structure. Gamers have access to the usual arsenal of fighting game tools: they can punch, kick, dodge, block, and counter. Sifu is particularly unforgiving, though, as it only offers the most subtle of hints before an enemy attacks, unlike other, equally challenging games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which are often more generous when it comes to telegraphing enemy attacks, allowing players ample opportunity to dodge or counter. Perhaps the most unique aspect of Sifu is its death mechanic: with each death, Sifu's player character will age a certain amount, and the amount that the character ages increases with consecutive deaths. If the player dies when the protagonist is in their seventies, it's game over.
This doesn't seem to be an issue for speedrunner 옹발이 ONGBAL, however, who has just achieved the world record complete time for Sifu, finishing the game in just twenty-two minutes. The speedrun video, which was reported on by gaming outlet Push Square, showcases ONGBAL's competence and technique when approaching the game's challenges. All in all, ONGBAL spends an average of just four-and-a-half minutes on each level without using any obvious glitches or exploits.

While nothing can take away from ONGBAL's insane achievement, it does come with a few caveats. First of all, it appears that ONGBAL made use of the game's many shortcuts which, obviously, results in a much quicker clear time. Additionally, ONGBAL has Sifu's overarching skill tree, which carries over between runs, completely maxed-out. These abilities are not overpowered in any way, but they do offer a slight advantage, especially for experienced players.
With that said, it would be unfair to use these details to minimize ONGBAL's speedrun. Even with shortcuts and every ability unlocked, completing the game in just twenty-two minutes is impressive-- and that's not even mentioning the fact that ONGBAL did all this without incurring a single death. For anyone looking to master Sifu's mechanics, ONGBAL's video might not be a bad resource.
Sifu is currently available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
