Horizon Forbidden West: How To Defeat a Dreadwing | Screen Rant

A Dreadwing is a flying-based machine in Horizon Forbidden West. Learning what it takes to defeat them will make it easier for players to continue their quest. The ForbiddenWest is a brand new land for the player and Aloy alike as both explore this new area far and wide. Along the way, she will discover new machines and uncover the mystery of the plague going around destroying everything. During one of the main story missions, Aloy will face off against a Dreadwing.

Like every other machine in Horizon Forbidden West, the Dreadwing has its own elemental weaknesses and strengths. They are flying enemies that can turn invisible for a limited time. The player will encounter Dreadwings during the Seeds of the Past mission, which is a main story mission where Aloy must cross through the wilderness to reach the west coast. Right before entering Test Center Ivy, the player will need to kill the Dreadwing.

For starters, the Dreadwing is weak against Fire-based damage so make sure to equip these on Aloy before this encounter. It will resist Acid, Shock, and Frost damage, making them nearly worthless in this situation. When the Dreadwing becomes invisible, continue to attack it. Horizon Forbidden West will show a slight outline of where the Dreadwing is. Keep shooting arrows or hit it with Aloy's spear when it's in this state.

Hitting the Dreadwing with Fire-based attacks in Horizon Forbidden West has the chance to inflict it with the Burning effect. This will slowly melt the Dreadwing's armor and cause it to fall to the ground. It will leave it wide open for Aloy to use her spear to do some serious damage. Not only that, but Aloy can lock on the Dreadwing's Bomb Launcher. If the player is able to break it off, they can use it against the Dreadwing for additional damage.

There will also be nearby Blaze Sacs that Aloy can use her bow to destroy. Wait until the Dreadwing gets close enough and shoot at it to cause a massive explosion. Combining all of these methods will make quick work of this boss battle. After defeating the Dreadwing, the player can enter the Test Station Ivy and find the materials to craft the Vine Cutter in Horizon Forbidden West. This is an item that will open up new pathways that were previously blocked off by lush plants. Using the Vine Cutter, break the Metal Flower Vines and enter the Data Core to recover DEMETER. Return this back to GAIA to complete the mission.
