Quentin Tarantino was put on the Hollywood map with Reservoir Dogs. The movie holds up to this day largely thanks to its talented cast, playing iconic characters like Mr. Pink and Mr. Blonde. But as one of the rare movies with an all-male cast, it is interesting to consider how Reservoir Dogs might feel different with female actors as the main characters.
While the roles of undercover cops and tough-guy criminals are stereotypically filled by male actors, there are plenty of women in Hollywood today who could do these roles justice while still delivering the same intensely violent and wild crime movie.
10 Mr. Brown: Tiffany Haddish
Mr. Brown (Quentin Tarantino) doesn't have a big role in the movie and virtually disappears after the opening scene. But this young member of the crew gets one of the most famous quotes in Reservoir Dogs with his funny and vulgar monologue about Madonna's "Like a Virgin."
With Tiffany Haddish's background in comedy and hilarious R-rated roles in movies like Girls Trip, she could really stand out with this role. It's easy to imagine her delivering that monologue with her signature funny energy.
9 Mr. Blue: Tig Notaro
Mr. Blue (Edward Bunker) has the smallest role out of all the main criminals in the movie. He only delivers a few lines here and there before the audience learns he was killed off-screen during the heist. But his silent presence still stands out as a member of the crew.
Tig Notaro is mostly known for delivering scene-stealing performances in small roles, like in Army of the Dead. It would be exciting to see her take on this more silent role as she has a captivating presence that would fit into an ensemble like this.
8 Holdaway: Regina King
As part of the movie's complicated timeline, it jumps back in time for an extended period to explore Mr. Orange's preparation as an undercover cop. Holdaway (Randy Brooks) is a cop who mentors Orange, teaching him with a cool, laidback attitude while also seeming to really care about his safety.
Regina King also brings a coolness to many of her performances and always seems like the smartest person in the room. It is easy to see her as someone who would impart her wisdom to a young protege. She could also add a stronger maternal touch to the part as with her Oscar-winning role in If Beale Street Could Talk.
7 Marvin Nash: Jane Levy
Certainly, the most unforgettable scene in Reservoir Dogs is the torture scene in which a terrified cop named Marvin Nash (Kirk Baltz) is the victim. Nash's horror and pleading in the scene make it all the more intense and keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
Jane Levy is a very versatile actor, but she has been excellent in a number of horror movies. From Evil Dead to Don't Breathe, Levy can deliver such a convincing terrified performance that sells the danger of the situation in the movie.
6 Joe Cabot: Frances McDormand
The criminal boss overseeing the main heist in Reservoir Dogs is Joe Cabot (Laurence Tierney). In a movie filled with tough characters, Joe feels like he can intimidate the whole gang with just his stare. He has a gruff, mean, and commanding presence about him that is very effective.
Frances McDormand has played a number of likable roles, but she excels at playing the tough and intimidating parts. In Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, she was superb at playing someone who doesn't back down and will confront anyone in her way.
5 Nice Guy Eddie: Samara Weaving
Nice Guy Eddie (Chris Penn) is Joe Cabot's son who helps with the details of the heist. He is a more fun-loving person than his father, as he jokes around with the gang and is even likable. But when things go wrong, he turns into an intense and even scary person.
Samara Weaving brings a fun energy to all of her roles that would be ideal for Nice Guy Eddie. Ready or Not is a great example of how she can switch between the funny and lovable character to someone who is not afraid to get their hands bloody.
4 Mr. Orange: Tessa Thompson
The revelation that Mr. Orange (Tim Roth) is the cop in the crew quickly makes him a noteworthy character. As he lays dying for most of the movie, the audience sympathizes with him, and the fact that he is still trying to save the day makes him the most likable character in Reservoir Dogs.
Tessa Thompson is the kind of actor whom audiences automatically want to cheer for. In roles as varied as Dear White People and Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson plays characters who have the odds against them yet they remain heroic.
3 Mr. Pink: Awkwafina
Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi) is perhaps the biggest standout in the movie and the type of character not usually seen in these crime movies before Reservoir Dogs. He is a fast-talking and incredibly nervous criminal who becomes the most rational one in the group.
In Awkwafina's various movie and television roles, she is great at playing that high-energy person who talks a mile-a-minute as everyone else tries to keep up. Her role in Jumanji also shows her playing a character who isn't afraid to show their fear in intense situations.
2 Mr. White: Viola Davis
Though Reservoir Dogs is very much an ensemble, Mr. White (Harvey Keitel) feels like the closest thing to the main character. He is a violent and ruthless criminal but also shows his softer side as he cares for Mr. Orange and looks out for him.
Viola Davis always brings so much intensity and talent to every performance, and she can play those ruthless characters, like Amanda Waller in The Suicide Squad. But it is her role in Widows in which she plays a formidable yet human criminal in the heist genre that shows how perfect she is for Mr. White.
1 Mr. Blonde: Charlize Theron
Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen) first appears to just be another quiet member of the crew, but he eventually reveals himself to be the most dangerous of them. The fact that he is able to maintain his laidback and calm attitude while torturing and killing is especially chilling.
Charlize Theron is one of those actors who exudes coolness on screen. Her Oscar-winning role in Monster shows she can be quite violent and disturbing while her villainous role in the Fast and Furious movies sees her playing that calm and collected villain so well.
