Final Fantasy XIV: How to Unlock The New Astrologian Job

Among the diverse roles in Final Fantasy XIV, Healers, such as Astrologians and White Mages, are an absolute necessity for team compositions in Trials or Dungeons. However, the card-wielding Astrologian is different from other support jobs in Final Fantasy XIV in that it's only accessible after players fulfill a few necessary prerequisites.

The Astrologian job is exclusively available for players who own or have access to the FFXIV Heavensward expansion. Luckily, new players can play the expansion's content via the free trial, but those who've used up their free subscription will have to purchase Heavensward to unlock the Astrologian job. For this reason, non-subscribed players who primarily want to play as an Astrologian will need to focus on completing the requirements needed to access the job. Read on to learn how to unlock the new Astrologian job in Final Fantasy 14.

To unlock Astrologian in Final Fantasy 14, players need to have finished the whole campaign of A Realm Reborn. All the Main Scenario Quests (MSQ) until Heavensward, including the quest "Before the Dawn," must be completed. Additionally, players will need to have reached Level 50 or higher in a Disciples of War or Magic job. After these prerequisites have been met, players can travel to the city of Ishgard and accept the quest, "Stairway to the Heavens," granting access to the Astrologian storyline. As mentioned above, if a player doesn't have access to Heavensward, then they cannot unlock the Astrologian job or its equipment in Final Fantasy XIV.

There are two ways to quickly complete all the base game's MSQ and reach Level 50. First, players can play FFXIV with a sharp focus on finishing the main story. Generally, this is the proper method to engage with the story and its colorful cast of characters, and learn the ropes of a class or job through efficient leveling in Final Fantasy XIV. However, those in a hurry to reach the Astrologian job might consider the second option a better choice: purchasing a progression boost that skips A Realm Reborn entirely. It's an affordable alternative, especially for players who don't wish to spend 30+ hours on the main story.

After reaching Level 50 and finishing the main campaign in FFXIV, players wanting to become Astrologians should head to Ishgard, a city in Coerthas that becomes available after Heavensward's story begins. They should enter a zone called The Pillars and search for an NPC named Jannequinard. He can be found at the map coordinates X: 15.2, Y: 10.0. Speaking to him will grant access to the "Stairway to the Heavens" quest, which unlocks the Astrologian job's questline in FFXIV.
