Warning: contains major spoilers for Gamma Flight #3!
One of the Hulk's biggest foes - Abomination - has a surprising new connection to his archenemy. Gamma Flight #3 provides the irradiated team with a new member - the daughter of the most recent iteration of the Abomination. She's out to redeem her father, making it ironic that she needs Hulk's allies to do so.
Dionne Fortean, also known as Stockpile, first appeared in Gamma Flight #1. The titular team showed up to help her when Hulk's son, Skaar, tried to recapture her for the company, Green Spring, which is using gamma to weaponize test subjects. She is the daughter of Reginald Fortean, who recently became the Abomination in the Marvel comic, Immortal Hulk. He has been dead for a little while, but it seems he has not entirely remained so.
Gamma Flight #3 has the creative team of Al Ewing, Crystal Frasier, Lan Medina, Antonio Fabela, and Vc Joe Sabino. In this newest issue, Hulk's allies escape Skaar and the United States Hulkbuster Force, discovering more of the secrets of Green Spring thanks to Dionne. By the end of the issue, the current Abomination's daughter is on a mission to clear her father's name and stop him from being used as the face of Green Spring's efforts. The best way to do so is to join up with the one team her father previously would have never wanted her to be a part of: Gamma Flight.
Dionne Fortean is a gamma mutate from Austin, Texas. Gamma Flight found her when she escaped from Green Spring and Skaar, who came after her. Now, as a result of her new abilities and the things she has discovered about the project her deceased father has roundaboutly become involved with, she is on the path to becoming a hero. Gamma Flight is a new team, branching off of the previous incarnation of Alpha Flight, which is spiraling out of the pages of Immortal Hulk. They deal with gamma threats, but mostly have been allies to the Hulk, who brought them all together. As of late, they've been aiding him in fights and are now seeking to bring back Bruce Banner from the Below-Place. In this off-shoot series, they're tackling a broader threat separate from their adventures in their introductory series.
The sudden appearance of Dionne and the threats she has informed them of creates an interesting new dynamic within this series. Reginald Fortean, her father, was an enemy to the Hulk within Immortal Hulk. He even vowed that he'd destroy the Hulk, before a final fight led to both of their deaths. Ironically, Charlene McGowan, now a member of Gamma Flight, was part of Fortean's former team before she betrayed him - as a result of him turning into an uncontrollable force. Her turn to Hulk's team and now the arrival of Dionne to the team is making for some strange shifts in allegiance that would not be expected due to their association with the current Abomination.
Fortean may be dead, but the way he is currently being used by Emil Blonsky - the other Abomination - and Green Spring, could change his mind about his perspective on the Hulk. After all, Hulk isn't trying to use Fortean's face, body, or projects to destroy the country the former general fought for while serving in the Air Force. His own daughter is now roundaboutly an ally to the Hulk, which may be the best thing for everyone involved. The new Abomination may not have liked the giant gamma mutate, but Marvel's new super-team is definitely on the better side of this fight.
