The MCU's Phase 4 will have 25 new projects, and three of them will basically be full-on Avengers movies. Phase 4 of the MCU will be bigger than ever, with major characters like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, the Fantastic Four, and the Young Avengers finally getting their highly-anticipated introduction. Several established characters will also embark on new adventures, including Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in WandaVision and Tom Hiddleston's titular villain in Loki.
Three of the biggest Phase 4 movies are Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, due to its focus on the multiverse; Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, due to its potential live-action adaptation of the Spider-Verse, and Thor: Love and Thunder, which will continue the cinematic journey of Chris Hemsworth's god of Thunder in the wake of Ragnarok and the Snap. Although most of the future MCU movies and shows will be colossal in scope, these three movies will be the most similar to previous Avengers films.
Doctor Strange 2 will base its premise around the concept of different dimensions, which is a sure way to introduce multiple characters from alternate realities, including those from non-MCU properties. Possible guest appearances range from Fox's X-Men characters to the titular alien from the 1986 Howard the Duck movie. By this point, the possibilities are indeed endless. Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez is also confirmed to join Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the movie, and the upcoming Spider-Man 3 will tie directly into it. Therefore, any of the three live-action Spider-Men could also make an appearance, making Doctor Strange 2 more packed with heroes than most Avengers movies.
Doctor Strange will also appear in Spider-Man 3 as Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) mentor. The villains will include Jamie Foxx's Electro, who will be returning from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus, who will return from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. Since this paves the way for a battle way bigger than any previous Avengers-level threat, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield may return as their respective versions of Spider-Man - bringing their respective supporting cast along with them. Netflix's Daredevil is reportedly joining the fight, too, and other villains like Tom Hardy's Venom, Michael Keaton's Vulture, and Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio could appear as well.
Thor: Love and Thunder doesn't seem to feature as many A-list characters as Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man 3, but it will reveal how Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) wields Mjolnir and becomes the new Thor. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander) are confirmed to return, and Loki's Disney+ show makes it possible for the god of Mischief to make a comeback once again. Following the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, it would be logical for the Guardians of the Galaxy to accompany Thor in his fourth installment, at least for the first part of the movie. As if that weren't enough, other possible appearances include new characters like Beta Ray Bill and Hercules, given that Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) will be one of the multiverse's most powerful villains.
Each of these three movies will be bigger than the first two Avengers films, but the size of their main cast will still be similar. The interactions between the heroes will also resemble the Avengers, given that the new teams either have never worked together or simply can't get along. Besides, Spider-Man 3 will have several villains, which is an unprecedented quality that will surely change the narrative structure MCU fans are used to.
