Will Andrew Garfield Return For Spider-Man 3 Too? | Screen Rant

With the return of Electro in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3, will The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield also appear? Prior to the recent reboot of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that saw Tom Holland become the latest live-action iteration of Peter Parker, Sony attempted to start a Marvel shared universe of their own. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was designed to set up spinoffs and sequels revolving around Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. Of course, those plans didn't materialize after Spidey jumped to the MCU.

Spider-Man's story in the MCU has been quite rewarding for fans, as he's been fully integrated into major MCU event films and had his own solo series. Once Sony and Disney/Marvel agreed to new terms on a deal to share Spider-Man, it wasn't long before Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 was officially announced. Fans have been wondering what the story will hold after the cliffhanger ending for Spider-Man: Far From Home and J.K. Simmons' return as J. Jonah Jameson. Now, there's word that Jamie Foxx's Electro will return for Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 too, after first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The details behind Electro's return in Spider-Man 3 have yet to be disclosed, but it didn't take long for the multiverse to become the center of discussion. The multiverse is set to be a big part of Phase 4, and it could explain how Electro is back, either as a new version from across the multiverse or after traveling through it to the MCU. In either case, Electro's return gives the MCU a tie to the Amazing Spider-Man franchise and could open the door for Andrew Garfield to return. There are currently no reliable reports that this will happen, but it is feasible now. Garfield's time as Spider-Man was cut short, and even though he's moved on, the chance to be in the MCU as he always wanted could bring him back.

The return of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man is something that fans have been asking for ever since the potential for a Spider-Verse story was brought to life with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That is why the Electro news has sparked so many questions about Garfield's possible return, even though there is currently no evidence that it is being considered. Garfield may have been the lead of a Spider-Man franchise that didn't live up to expectations, but he was never the problem. His theoretical return would give him another chance to suit up and show what he can do with potentially better material.

Even if Garfield doesn't appear in Spider-Man 3, that doesn't mean that the movie or the rest of Phase 4 won't help build to his potential return. WandaVision is expected to crack open the multiverse, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will explore it in great detail, and the upcoming debut of Kang opens up more alternate reality stories. As the multiverse grows, the MCU could expand to encompass all past Marvel movies, with Garfield's Spider-Man being part of another universe. Then, Sony could have the groundwork needed to do a live-action Spider-Verse movie that brings Garfield back for the first time or once again if he does appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 after all.
