The Avengers: 5 Characters With The Most Screen Time (& 5 With The Least)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe was such a unique concept when it came about in 2008 and began forming in the years following. It was any comic-book fans dream to see all these beloved characters they grew up with come on screen, but one that seemed to be a pipe dream, and then it happened, with those heroes coming together in 2012's The Avengers.

It is a great movie in the MCU, one of many, with the original Avengers alongside other great characters deliver in spades, and set up a future that would see tonnes of characters piled into the movies. With so many characters, it is hard to give some characters the time they deserve on-screen, while others get their fair share.

10 Least - Colonel-General Georgi Luchkov (1:45)

For a long time, there was only really one female hero in the MCU, with Black Widow carrying that mantle in a typical badass manner. Her opening scene in this film sees her with Georgi Luchkov.

Luchkov was a Colonel-General of the Russian Armed Forces and had kidnapped Black Widow to torture her and extract information. Unbeknownst to him, she had him outwitted, and he was quickly dealt with when Black Widow gets called away.

9 Most - Loki (21:30)

Loki has such a wild journey throughout the MCU, sometimes being a hero, sometimes being a villain, and, most of the time, stuck between two dueling sides of morality.

In this film, though, he is firmly a villain, and is, in fact, the main antagonist of the movie. Loki strikes a deal with the Other; if Loki retrieves the Tesseract, the Other will give Loki an army of Chitauri for which to rule over humanity, setting off the events of the movie.

8 Least - Councilman Gideon Mallick (1:00)

There are a plethora of characters in this universe that are agents of some sort, whether they work for the government, for S.H.I.E.L.D., or are undercover HYDRA agents infiltrating other agencies.

The latter is where Gideon Malick falls, a character who has a far bigger role in the tie in television show Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but who does appear in this movie as a HYDRA infiltrator of the World Security Council.

7 Most - Bruce Banner/The Hulk (21:45)

The Hulk had strange beginnings in the MCU, and was by far the most important character to get recast after problems arose with Edward Norton in the role. Mark Ruffalo stepped in and debuted in this film.

Ruffalo is great in the movie as Bruce Banner, and Hulk was as entertaining as possible, with the entire Hulk smash scene with he and Loki being a comedic highlight of the film.

6 Least - Councilwoman Hawley (1:00)

As talked about earlier, there are a plethora of agents and officials littered throughout the MCU, with a lot of them concentrated in this period before Thanos' reign of terror.

Unlike Gideon Mallick, Hawley was not secretly working for HYDRA. She was simply a part of the World Security Council and was a crucial overseer of S.H.I.E.L.D., coming to odds with Nick Fury during her time.

5 Most - Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (24:45)

In the early days of the MCU, there really were not any good female heroes who got in on the action except for Natasha Romanoff, better known as Black Widow, who was continuously delivering in spades in that aspect.

Black Widow may not have powers and weapons like Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, and Thor, but she is a valuable asset in this film and highly skilled in just about every area, making her a great addition to this story.

4 Least - Jasper Sitwell (0:30)

Those characters who are agents that keep getting talked about are dotted throughout this movie and others and can be quite important in many ways, especially if they come to a head with the Avengers.

Or, if they are secret HYDRA agents who have infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. as Gideon Mallick mentioned earlier, or like Jasper Sitwell, who gets little time in this movie, but is another character who gets more story in the accompanying T.V. show.

3 Most - Steve Rogers/Captain America (28:15)

Steve Rogers, Captain America, has been Mr. Consistency since his debut in the MCU, with not only all of his individual movies delivering, but his character being consistently great also.

He is right in the middle of everything going on in this movie, with some great moments with the likes of Black Widow and Tony Stark, and in the final third of the film was a part of so much great action alongside his fellow Avengers.

2 Least - Thanos (0:15)

There has been no patient wait in cinematic history quite like the wait for Thanos to arrive properly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not in short moments, little looks, and post-credit scenes displaying the Mad Titan, but for a true arrival.

In this movie, all audiences get to enjoy of Thanos is a post-credit scene in which the Other, Thanos' servant who got spoke about earlier, talks to Thanos about how the humans cannot get ruled and controlled so easily, to which Thanos replies with nothing but a sinister smile.

1 Most - Tony Stark/Iron Man (31:45)

Tony Stark truly is right at the heart of the MCU; after kicking off the entire universe in spectacular fashion, he has appeared in numerous films outside of his own and is always right in the middle of what is going on with the Earth's protection and the Avengers.

In this film, Tony Stark risks his life in more of a hardcore way than usual and does so to save the planet and help defeat Loki and his army. As always, he has fantastic character moments and interactions and is just a joy to watch for his half-hour plus on-screen.
