Assassin's Creed: The 20 Most Powerful (And 7 Worthless) Weapons In Odyssey

The history of Assassin’s Creed - Ubisoft’s flagship and probably longest-running successful franchise – has been eventful. Assassin’s Creed was the first in the series that introduced us to historical periods like the Crusades, French Revolution and the Age of Piracy in the Caribbean back, and combined with various interesting elements like stealth, parkour, and sandbox, quickly went on to become one of the highest-selling gaming series of all times. Though it also had quite a few titles that didn't do that well, due to internal problems and other troubles following the release of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

It was Assassin’s Creed: Origins that broke the deadlock for Ubisoft, celebrated for its beautiful Ancient Egyptian setting and a vast world to explore. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey takes it forward with its take on Ancient Greece with an even-bigger open world, though it doesn’t take much from the running Assassin’s/Templar storyline of the series (as it takes place before Assassins and Templars were organized groups). Despite that, the game has been almost-universally liked by serious and casual fans alike.

In addition to all the other improvements, one area Odyssey significantly improves on is the combat; it’s fluid, considerably-varied and challenging. With a deluge of items and weapons scattered around the world to find, and a versatile leveling-up system which lets you train your character around the play-style you prefer, Odyssey fights as well as it looks.

Many weapons can be upgraded, though the best ones could only be obtained by exploring the world and picking up fights with loaded enemies. Some of the weapons, on the other hand, may look good on paper (or screen), but don’t provide much utility to the kit, if not being outright useless.

Here are The 20 Most Powerful (And 7 Worthless) Weapons In Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

27 Worthless: Typhon's Mace

If you take a first look at this one, it appears to be a powerful weapon. Typhon’s Mace is a legendary Heavy Blunt, and deals an impressive amount of damage for the late game. Though it’s the perks that it comes with that betray its lack of any utility in combat, it’s got a boost in Assassin Damage, as well as a the Charged Heavy Attack ability, none of which complement the playing styles of those Heavy Blunt brawlers out there.

If you really want it, you'll have to defeat the Cultist Exekias the Legend.

26 Most Powerful: Dagger of Kronus

Daggers in Odyssey are fast and fun to cut down people with at close range, and could be engraved and improved to a great degree. Dagger of Kronus is a powerful legendary dagger, and comes with its own legendary feature that you can engrave on other weapons once you find it: 40% damage from behind.

It also comes with boosts on damage with daggers and warrior damage, making it an all-around useful weapon. Get the right perks and get better at evade against faster enemies, and this one can quickly finish most types of enemies. You must deal with the cultist called Chrysis to get it.

25 Most Powerful: Mallet of Everlasting Flame

If you want to rain fire and destruction on anyone who dares cross you in this war-torn world, Mallet of Everlasting Flame would be a good choice. Its sole purpose is to maximize the amount of burning, and even has a perk that converts all damage to fire damage.

The weapon could be found by hunting a mercenary once you reach level 46. While the first name could be randomized, their last name would always be "The Smouldering." The mace is heavy and works more in the mid-range, so it's a bit harder to use than other faster weapons.

24 Most Powerful: Gorgoneion Xiphos

Gorgoneion Xiphos is a sword with boosts to Assassin Damage and Adrenaline generated per critical hit. You’d think that’s not that special, though if your play-style is stealthier, there are a few weapons as powerful -- or provide so much utility in the more difficult missions -- as this one.

There’s also a low chance to stun the enemy on every hit, which stacks up to be pretty effective given how many hits are involved in a single fight in the game. You can get it after defeating the cultist called Hydra.

23 Worthless: Herakles' Bow

Another legendary item that may looks so shiny for being this useless on first look, Herakles' Bow is usually not worth carrying around, especially looking at other better bows you can upgrade to from normal, non-legendary bows.

It does come with a boost to the Bow Charged Shot ability, but other than that, its boosts to Warrior Damage and Bull Rush ability provide no utility to a bow. It does give a boost to the overall kit when combined with Herakles' Mace, but that’s still not enough to warrant keeping it around.

22 Most Powerful: Athena’s Spear

One of the many interesting different features of the game is its conquest system. Every area is ruled by a faction leader, and you can lower their defenses enough to start a battle of conquest on their border, and can join it from either side to get cool gear and change the political landscape of the region.

With its 25% boost to all damage and health in conquest battles, if you like conquests, you better work towards getting your hands on Athena’s Spear. To get the legendary spear, go to Athenian General Demosthenes & Spartan General Lysander and finish their quest lines.

21 Most Powerful: Xiphos of Pelesus

When you first start out, spears show up more than other weapon types, though as you progress in the game, various other weapons are discovered, all of them with their different ways of wielding them. Swords are especially effective, as they’re fast and some of them come with unique abilities.

Xiphos of Pelesus has a boost in Assassin Damage and Adrenaline generated per critical hit, but its most powerful engraving is its 20% damage with Rush Assassination ability (which can be improved in the skill tree). You can obtain the sword by looting the chest at Artemisia Fort in Kos.

20 Most Powerful: Arachne's Stingers

Another one of the rare deadly daggers scattered across the vast world of Odyssey, Arachne’s Stingers are only available to you once you reach level 43. If you’re going for a sneaky build, this one provides a massive 25% boost in poison damage as well as 15% in Assassin Damage, and converts all weapon damage to poison damage. If you stack that up with poison-based abilities, it can be made even more powerful.

However, you have to fight the mercenary called The Weaver to get this one.

19 Worthless: Akinakes

The Akinakes is a type of a short sword that was used by many Iranian kingdoms in the first millennium BCE, and formed an important part of their victories across Asia and Greece. It made its way to Greece soon enough, but was gradually replaced by better weapons.

The Akinakes in Odyssey is no exception to that rule, and even though makes for a useful weapon in the early game with its 6% Warrior Damage boost – when you’re still looking for better weapons – is not really useful once you start finding the shinier things.

18 Most Powerful: Griffin’s Scythe

As me mentioned above, spears in the game come across to be important early game items, but that doesn’t mean they stop being useful at any point in the grind to the top. Combat with spears is some of our favorite in the whole game, as they can reach further than other weapons, are fast, and tend to fit in with the ancient Greek backdrop.

Griffin’s Scythe provides boosts in Hunter Damage and Adrenaline generated per hit, which can be massively useful to recharge abilities fast. It also gives a boost in the spread shot ability, which may sound weird, though can work for those who do want to combo these two. It can be found by looking for the mercenary called The Patricidal.

17 Most Powerful: Polyphemos Cyclops Bludgeon

A tiny problem with the heavier weapons in the game – at least in the early phase – is that they’re too slow compared to other weapons, though as you progress further, their stacked up abilities provide much higher damage values per hit, offsetting their slow handling speed by a long shot.

Polyphemos Cyclops Bludgeon is a similar heavy-bladed weapon, and provides boosts in Assassin Damage and Heavy Blades. More importantly, it gives a 25% boost to damage on the elites and bosses in the various fights, which may help clearing up those forts and bandit camps faster. You can get this by completing the side quest called Stairway To Olympos.

16 Most Powerful: Achilles’s Spear

The Spear of Achilles also shows up in other games, and is usually as powerful as it sounds, Achilles being one of the most celebrated warriors of that time period. Achilles’s Spear in Odyssey is no different, and it looks rather gorgeous as well. It provides boosts on Hunter Damage and damage with spears, as well as on the multi-shot ability; a powerful ability in itself. However, that can be further upgraded in the skill tree, making it even more powerful.

This spear can be obtained by looting the Olynthos Fortress In Makedonia.

15 Worthless: Ritual Mace

As we mentioned above, the heavier weapons in the game are difficult to get any utility out of without their perks, as they’re too slow to use against enemies that are as fast and matched to your skill in lower levels as the higher ones. The Ritual Mace is an epic Heavy Blunt that may look intimidating, though as soon as you try it out in a fight, you’d realize its limitations.

For one, it has a boost to Assassin Damage, and we have no idea why. Warrior or even Hunter damage would be preferred, as Heavy Blunt wielders don’t exactly go for the stealthy play-style. It’s also super slow to swing and can only be used in close-quarters.

14 Most Powerful: Elysian Axe

As we said above, heavy-bladed weapons in the game may take a while to get used to, but once you get good at the combat and find the right weapons, they prove to be incredibly overpowered. Elysian Axe is another one of them, and you could tell how powerful it is just by swinging it for the first time. It provides a 5% boost on all damage, which is huge even if it doesn’t sound like it.

If you love the Rain of Destruction ranged ability (we sure do), it also provides 20% damage boost to that. Find the cultist called Polemon The Wise to get your hands on this one.

13 Most Powerful: Achilles’s Bow

Seeing the importance of Achilles in the ancient world of Greece, we’d require a good reason to not include any of his weapons we find in the list due to novelty alone. This one isn’t just for novelty either -- it’s one of the best bows you can get in the game (even though we were left a bit wanting on the overall bow department).

It provides as 20% boost to the Devastating Shot Ability, which can be stacked up to 400% Hunter Damage with its other perks. Combine that with its 5% boost to critical hit chance, and you can see how powerful it can be with the right arrows. You can obtain it from a mercenary named “The Marksman.”

12 Most Powerful: The Fanged Bow

Another one of the rare powerful bows in the game, The Fanged Bow is one of our favorite weapons due to its unique engraving. There’s the usual boosts in Assassin Damage and poison damage, though it’s its ability to convert normal arrows to poison arrows that changes the whole game for us. You usually need to activate an ability to use poison in the game, but this one doesn’t need anything.

To find it, you’d have to head to Naxos island and then the Cave of Mt. Zas.

11 Worthless: Hoplite Dory

While the foes you’d encounter later in the game are powerful enemies, the early-game Hoplite Dory isn’t really their preferred choice of weapon. It’s a rare spear you can find on one of your missions, and comes with a tiny boost to warrior damage and damage with spears.

It’s not exactly upgradeable, as better weapons would starting showing up shortly after you get this one and make it useless. It’s also not particularly fun to fight with either, even compared to some common spears found at those levels. You could engrave something useful in its empty slot, though you could also work at finding something better.

10 Most Powerful: Staff Of Hermes Trismegistus

While there are many weapons in the game that are powerful, the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus is one of the few ones that can qualify as overpowered. As a beautiful-looking spear left by the first civilization of Isu (whose ancient technology plays a central part in the main quest of the game; long story), this staff is easy to get carried away with due to its perks.

Apart from the Warrior Damage boost, there’s also a big chance to ignore half the damage in every hit, as well as generate a health shield, making you a formidable foe in almost any fight. You'll need to complete Pythagoras's quest in Atlantis to reach this one.

9 Most Powerful: The Sword of Damokles

The Sword of Damokles isn’t just an Osyssey weapon, it’s also a reference to the phrase of the same name, which refers to the constant danger over someone in a position of power.

A legendary weapon, The Sword of Damokles is perfect for one-man-army type of missions. It provides adrenaline generation on all critical hits and a boost in general Adrenaline gained, allowing you to unleash multiple abilities in a short period of time, along with a boost in Warrior Damage. This sword can be obtained by defeating the final cultist; Deimos.

8 Most Powerful: Poseidon's Trident

Poseidon's Trident is a mythical weapon wielded by Poseidon in Greek Mythology, and features in many other fictional works outside video games. In Odyssey, it’s a level-41 weapon that comes with a boost to Warrior Damage and Critical Hit Damage (a powerful perk in itself). Its main perk is the ability to breathe underwater, which is very useful for clearing out those submerged areas.

You can find it in the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon in an unnamed island in the north-east part of the map (below Cheos).

7 Worthless: Hunter’s Bow

Given the versatile arsenal of melee weapons, bows are comparatively a bit short on variability in Odyssey, even though they are immensely important for hunting for resources or stealth damage. The Hunter’s Bow is an early game common bow that gives a minor boost to Assassin’s Damage.

It can be engraved with additional perks, though as a lot of the cool ones aren’t available at the time you'd get it, there’s really no point in keeping this around once you have anything better. It can be found picking up random fights in the early game.

6 Most Powerful: Pandora's Kopis

Pandora's Kopis is a sword, though it may appear to be slightly smaller than other swords in the game. It combines especially well with the Beast Mastery ability tree, which allows you to knock out and tame various animals.

With this sword, the tamed beasts get massive damage and health boosts, allowing you even more powerful allies in your rampage across Ancient Greece. It also has a significant boost in damage to animals. To obtain it, you'll need to finish the Nemean Lion in the Sinkholes of Herakles (find it on the map in Argolis).

5 Most Powerful: Xiphos of Dionysos

One of the best parts of the game is the intricate and detailed skill tree. Provided there are only 4 slots each for ranged and special abilities to put your favorite abilities into, it helps you further specialize your kit to specific situations.

Xiphos of Dionysos is a powerful sword that combines with one of the most powerful abilities in the game -- Hero Strike. It’s basically a powerful stealth attack, and if done with the sword, deals even more damage than its already-devastating 60% boost to Assassin Damage. You can pick it up by defeating the cultist called Pausanias in the main quest.

4 Most Powerful: Nikolaos's Sword

Another weapon that combines well with one of the most powerful abilities in the game – Sparta Kick – Nikolaos’s Sword is our favorite for clearing up damaged ships during naval battles. With the sword, the Sparta Kick now deals 20% more damage, enough for getting those pesky Elites off the ship (though it can be used in most other combat situations). It also gives a unique boost to damage on Athenian Soldiers, as that was how much Nikolaos hated Athenians.

It maybe an early-game sword, but the weapons are upgradeable as you go, and this one ages quite well with your character. It can be obtained after the Wolf of Sparta quest.

3 Worthless: Rod of Asklepios

Rod of Asklepios is a legendary staff with seemingly good stats. It looks intimidating and provides boosts to Assassin Damage and Adrenaline generation per hit. Though it’s the golden perk of this staff (that all legendary weapons come with) is what makes it so useless in battle.

It converts all critical chance to normal damage, making sure that you you'd be spending way longer on foes on average than you should be. Some gamers disagree, though, as it could be paired with some sets of armor that boost critical damage to make up for the lack of it, but that would only go towards damage dealt as well.

2 Most Powerful: Hammer of Jason

If shielded enemies are giving you nightmares, we’d highly suggest going out and looking for this one. This Heavy Blunt provides significant boosts to Warrior Damage as well as damage with Heavy Blunts (which can be engraved on to other weapons once you find this). Its most powerful feature is its damage boost to the Shield Break ability, which is incredibly powerful in itself, and can be further improved in the Abilities section.

To find this one, head to Argolis, and clear out the bandit settlement Palace of Agamemnon. You can do it with stealth, though you can also deal with the bandits if you’re in the mood to fight.

1 Most Powerful: Falx Of Olympos

While it is an all-around beautiful looking spear, you’d have to make some tough choices if you choose to wield the legendary Falx Of Olympos. Its primary perk is a 100% boost in damage dealt, but it caps your health to 25%. With its boosts in Assassin Damage and Adrenaline generated, it can be used for a stealthy high-damage build, but it’s certainly not meant for those who like to go all out against multiple enemies on open ground.

You can find it in a loot chest in the underwater Palace of Amphitrite in the Volcanic Islands.
