Fan Art Re-Imagines Marvel Heroes as DC Atlanteans

Several Marvel heroes are transformed as Atlanteans in a slew of new fan artwork. Warner Bros. is set to continue building their own superhero universe later this year with the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman. The film comes after DCEU's more than a year hiatus, making fans extra eager to see what the film will add to the existing lore of the budding franchise. As for Marvel, it won't be until next year until people see a brand new movie from the MCU, with Captain Marvel not hitting theaters until March.

For the most part, Marvel and DC have been pitted against each other with regard to which comic book brand is better. But since comic book films started dominating, the age-old rivalry which started in print has spilled over to the big screen with both companies building their own cinematic universes. However, instead of pitting the two against each other, one fan found a way to merge them together in the form of illustrations.

Courtesy of digital artist Sebastien Minatchy aka. arkenstellar on Instagram is a slew of character designs imagining what some Marvel heroes would look like if they were Atlanteans. Mining inspiration from the look and feel of the DC subseries both in print and in the upcoming big screen adaptation, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Okoye were transformed into dwellers of Atlantis. Check out some of the artist's work below:

While all illustrations look really cool, the standouts are clearly the artist's interpretations of Thor and Gamora as Atlanteans. If people didn't know them well, these designs can easily pass up as legitimate DC characters especially since Thor's body type, not to mention long hair, resemble that of Momoa's version of Aquaman. As for Gamora, her green skin tone looks really cool against the blue backdrop. Sadly, it doesn't look like Marvel Studios has any plans of exploring their own underwater world just yet considering the complications with regard to Namor's character rights. That said, similar to Wakanda, the MCU has teased the existence of Atlantis way back in 2010's Iron Man 2 which gives people hope that it may eventually be explored on the big screen.

While fans are waiting for Marvel to go underwater, they can first check out DC's interpretation of Atlantis in the James Wan-directed Aquaman set to hit theaters later this year. Set after the events of Justice League, the film will reunite people with Momoa's titular character as he embarks on his solo adventure to reclaim his rightful place as the king of the underwater kingdom. So far, Warner Bros. has just released only one public trailer but with the film's debut inching closer, people can expect that the studio's marketing machine will start to heat up in the next several weeks.
