Marvel's Iron Fist Season 2 Video Hypes Improved Fights

Improved fights look to be on the way in Iron Fist season 2 based on a new video. One of the biggest complaints viewers had in regards to the first season of Marvel's Iron Fist on Netflix was the underwhelming fight sequences. For someone who is supposed to be a martial arts expert, Danny Rand didn't look that way, which made Finn Jones the subject of much criticism. He may not have had the needed prep time before filming started, but Jones has been working to improve his skill set so he can better play Iron Fist in the future. That was already put on display briefly in The Defenders and Luke Cage season 2, but his solo series also wants to benefit.

There's been more attention on Iron Fist season 2's fighting than most shows get. Marvel and Netflix did this themselves by bringing fight coordinator Clayton Barber - who previously worked on Black Panther - to San Diego Comic-Con to promote the show. Now, Barber returns to help hype up what he's bringing to the upcoming season.

Marvel released a brand new video for Iron Fist season 2 just one week ahead of its debut on Netflix and the entire focus is on the fights. Barber talks throughout most of the video, discussing his vision for the fights and helping the show find a new style. Jones is thrilled with the results and mentions Barber's interest in making the actors do as much of the fighting as possible, so Jones' combat skills are seen throughout. We also get to hear from Jessica Henwick and see Colleen Wing beating up her enemies with even more precision.

This is just a video that Marvel can splice together, but it is convincing in showing the improved fights. There's plenty of the action from season 2 featured, including a look at some of the early and pivotal ones. Barber mentions the early restaurant fight from the season premiere as one that helps establish the new look and feel to the action. But, it is the fight between Danny and Davos (Sacha Dhawan) in K'un-Lun that Jones is especially proud of.

With the release of the new season so close, it won't be long before everyone gets to check out if season 2 of Iron Fist actually delivers on these promises. The Iron Fist season 2 trailers have all shown some great looking action, so hopefully that translates in the full episodes. Even though the first season wasn't terribly well-received, many still want to see the show turn itself around. Fixing just the fights won't guarantee Iron Fist becomes a hit, but it is a step in the right direction.
