Chadwick Boseman Action Thriller From Russo Brothers Gets 2019 Release

Chadwick Boseman's 17 Bridges from the Russo Brothers' production studio receives a 2019 release date. Boseman made a name for himself playing legendary figures like Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get on Up, or more recently as Thurgood Marshall in Marshall. But, his biggest success has clearly come as T'Challa aka Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His solo movie crushed the box office to start off 2018, leading the way for Boseman and all of Wakanda to return in Avengers: Infinity War.

Thanks to the incredible success of both films, fans are understandably eager for Boseman to suit back up as Black Panther and get Black Panther 2. He'll be in Avengers 4 next year, but his next project was recently announced as another collaboration with Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo17 Bridges hails from their production studio and STX Films, and it's now set to hit theaters shortly after Avengers 4.

Deadline revealed that STX and the Russo Brothers' AGBO have set a July 12, 2019 release date for 17 Bridges. The action thriller will be directed by Brian Kirk, who makes a return to feature films after directing episodes of Game of Thrones and Penny Dreadful. The script was written by Adam Mervis but was rewritten by Matthew Carnahan (House of Lies).

As far as the release date goes, 17 Bridges looks to have found a nice landing spot. Even though it will come out in the heat of the summer, there's no other wide release films set to be released on July 12. That said, it is being sandwiched in between two major tentpoles for next year. Sony's Spider-Man: Far From Home arrives the week before, while Disney's live-action The Lion King comes out the week after 17 Bridges debuts. With a likely lower budget, Boseman's action thriller shouldn't have to worry about coming close to matching either of those film's performances.

17 Bridges will follow Boseman as a disgraced NYPD detective who becomes involved with a manhunt. He's put on a case to find a cop murderer that will take him across the city as he tries to redeem himself. However, the hunt isn't as clear cut as it may initially seem. Those are all of the plot elements that are currently known, but more could surface soon. Production on 17 Bridges is set to begin in three weeks. By that time, more casting should be announced as Boseman is currently the only actor attached. As more information on 17 Bridges becomes available, we'll be sure to share.
